Navigating the cannabis landscape can be daunting at first. Here is the short version of the one distinction people ask about most — Indica, Sativa, and the Hybrids in between — and what each one tends to feel like.

Indica

Traditionally associated with a heavier, body-forward, relaxing effect. Most people reach for indica-leaning cultivars in the evening, for winding down, or before bed. Often higher in myrcene and linalool.

Sativa

Traditionally associated with a lighter, head-forward, more energising effect. Usually the daytime pick — social plans, creative work, getting outside. Often higher in limonene and pinene.

Hybrid

A cross between the two, which is most of what is on the shelf today. A hybrid can lean either way, so the balance in a specific cultivar matters more than the word on the label. Terpene profile depends entirely on the cross.

One caveat worth knowing: the Indica/Sativa split is a rough guide, not a rule. A cultivar's cannabinoid content and terpene profile predict how it will feel far better than which of the two words appears on the jar — which is why it is worth asking us rather than shopping by label alone.
